Staying Positive Through Chaos

Welcome!

I decided to add a few posts here that weren't completely hair related. This one happens to be personal and I hope that by sharing I will have helped someone who is going through a rough time.

Just over ten years ago my whole world was turned upside down.

I was married, had three young boys, had a very successful business, and was managing a salon. My husband at the time was making plenty of money. We had a big house, nice cars, and the kids were in private schools.

Behind the scenes my world was crumbling. I had a sense that something was wrong but I didn't know what.

By the time I found out, it was too late.

My husband at the time had become a compulsive gambler. He had gambled and lost around 75 thousand dollars in the span of six short months.

I know what you're thinking.......How the hell did she not know?!?!

The thing with addicts, they're very sneaky and truthfully, I didn't want to know. I was crazy busy running my business, a salon, taking care of my three boys and running a household. Ignorance, bliss and all that.

Reality smacked me upside the head. I tried everything. I went to Gamanon, I had him go to Gamblers Anonymous, we went to counseling, the whole shebang. None of it worked.

I was sitting in a chair in my counselors office talking to him and it hit me. It was time to leave. I knew it in my bones.

I left with nothing. I moved salons (his mom owned the one I was at) and had to completely re build my business. I had to start over.

I was ok with that. I was more than ok with it. I was happy. I felt as if the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders.

I also knew that despite the shit show that my life had seemingly become I could not sit and dwell on it. I made a choice to stay positive. I started journaling every night and would ONLY write positive things. Was it easy? Hell no! I was beyond angry, hurt and broke. It was so hard to stay positive but I knew that it was the only way to speed up the process of rising from the ashes of my former life.

I had no idea how I was going to buy Christmas gifts for my kids. The holidays were right around the corner. I had no idea how I was going to keep my kids at their schools for the remainder of the school year. I really didn't want to have to move schools after all they had been through.

I stayed positive. Every Day.

The money came. I received a random check because we had over paid our escrow. My grandfather paid my kids tuition for the remainder of the year. I didn't ask for any of it, it just showed up.

I stayed positive. Every Day.

I moved to beautiful salon in Scottsdale and rebuilt my business. I met my current business partner and work wife, Nicole. We now co-0wn the Studio Beauty Salon and Suites. My business is growing in a new and exciting way with Natural Beaded Rows.

I re-connected with my high school crush, Bart, at a party that mutual friends were having. We got married and had a baby boy.

Life is good, it's always been good. Has it been all sunshine and lollipops? Nope, we've had lots of big, ugly challenges and will continue to do so. I am grateful for all of it. It all brought me to where I am today.

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change" ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

Keep your chin up, stay positive and focus on your end goals.

Lord knows I need that reminder daily. Here's the thing, if I can do it once, I can do it again and continue to do it! Same goes for everyone else.

xoxo,

Christy
